City of Wodonga Skilled Migration Program

The Wodonga Skilled Migration Program seeks to ensure that businesses in Wodonga can grow to their full capacity by being able to access the skilled people they need.

The skilled migration needs of the Wodonga region are serviced by a co-coordinator employed by the City of Wodonga to service and co-ordinate the efforts towards skilled migration in the Wodonga region.

HOW TO EMPLOY A SKILLED MIGRANT?

A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

  1. Contact the coordinator at the Wodonga City Council on (02) 6022 9267 and explain the nature of skills shortages
  2. Coordinator discusses options available
  3. Employer to provide job description and identify the number of positions
  4. Coordinator assists in sourcing skilled migrant to fill vacancy
  5. Complete documentation with regional certifying body (where necessary)
  6. Obtain approval from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
  7. Coordinator assists employer with smooth relocation of migrant employee and family

The Wodonga Region Skilled Migration Program can help you in the following ways:

  • Help employers make more informed decisions to address their skills shortages by providing information and referral services.
  • Offering assistance to participate in expos, advertising overseas and targeting specific countries
  • Access to Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC's Skill Matching Database, database of prospective migrants that have applied to migrate independently)
  • Provide linkages to DIAC and other bodies
  • Engaging specialist recruitment agencies (for specialist occupations)
  • Source permanent residents and overseas students currently residing in Australia
  • Link employers to ethnic groups, provide access to cultural awareness training for employees
  • Facilitate the integration of skilled migrant employee and family.

 The Wodonga Skilled Migrant program is funded under Victoria’s Skilled Migration strategy, supplemented by funds from the City of Wodonga.
